Caroline believes she owes any success to her family. Both parents, Francois and Frances were always finding ways to get Caroline on snow. Francois', Swiss heritage was the reason for Caroline's skiing deput at the age of two in the Swiss Alps. From there it was all downhill...After learning to ski in Switzerland, the Lalive family brought up their three children in Alpine Meadows, California. In 1995, at the age of 16 the Lalives relocated to Steamboat Springs, Colorado allowing all three kids to chase their Olympic dreams. Caroline attended the Lowell Whiteman school where she could juggle a competitive skiing career and high school education . There she was named to the US Ski Team after her junior year in high school in 1996. Nicknamed 'Liner' for the ability to pick out the perfect racing line, Caroline has competed in two Olympic games and reached six world-cup podiums since her US Ski Team debut.
Caroline still counts Steamboat Springs, Colorado as her main residence and also lives in St. Johann, Austria during much of the ski season. Suffering a season-ending injury immediately preceeding the 2006 Winter Olympics, Caroline has her sights firmly set on the upcoming World Cup season and eventually the 2010 Olympics in British Colombia, Canada.
